Classes added to page elements are disappearing

Classes added to page elements are disappearing and no longer available in the selector. Sometimes when I log back in they reappear.

I have a lot of pages using the same tag (Is this a potential cause?)
Have also been giving tags long names e.g. Hospital detail page contact list label (Is this a potential cause?)
