CSS Grid Row/Column integration

I’m trying to figure out how to have a single row that contains all the items, so that I can have a shaded horizontal line, rather than a separate line in each column like it is now.

So. instead of having it look like this,

I want it to look more like this. I’m not able to figure how to do that in CSS Grid.
