How does one publish a test site to a hidden domain?

I can’t seem to find any discussion on posting a site in progress for a client to review. I have an existing hosted but unused domain at BlueHost I would like to use. How do you create a hidden URL so you can send a client a complicated but easily clicked link to review work in progress, – keeping it hidden from the public and SEO crawlers?
