How to get an div to hide after click and not return in the same session

Hi Guys,

We have put a breaking news box on our website. When the user clicks the close button it shuts. But is there a way we can stop it opening again? Would this need to be coded manually? And if yes, what do I need to ask my developer to do to make it happen?
