I'd like to switch templates but I don't understand the process!

I’m not quite sure how to proceed. I know I cannot switch on the fly, so I’d like to know the steps. If I simply delete and start anew, will that interfere with my custom domain? Thanks and if I need to explain in more depth, no problem! Thanks!

Hi @jonnyfreedom, thanks for your post. The process goes like this:

  1. You create your original site and have already added a custom domain to the hosting tab on the original site. This is your starting point.

  2. Create a new site, using the template of your choice. Remove the custom domains from the Hosting Tab on the first site, and add those to the second new site.

  3. Republish the new site, the domain should now be pointed at your new Webflow site.

I hope that helps, if not, let me know and I am happy to assist further.

Cheers, Dave

Hey Dave. Quick followup here to jonnyfreedom’s question. What impact will the process you describe have on SEO? I’m also hoping to switch to a new template…just worried about SEO. Thanks!

Hi @JacksonSolway, there should be no effect on SEO, unless you change the SEO title texts. See this article: http://help.webflow.com/how-webflow-uses-seo

If you keep the seo titles the same and the url paths the same, then there will be no change. If you have paths to pages or page names change, then you can use the redirect feature to redirect non-existing pages to new pages: http://help.webflow.com/site-settings/hosting#site-url-redirects

I hope this helps

Cheers,
Dave

Hi @cyberdave,

I have removed the custom domains from the original site already but on the new site hosting tab it still says “upgrade to add custom domain” while the original site hosting tab says “add custom domain”… what should I do?
