Need help with styling the checkbox under forms

I managed to figure out -by way of reverse engineering- how to style the checkbox element under forms to look like a button when selected. The only issue I am having is I can’t figure out how to keep the element selected. I am using this site Webflow - Multi-step Form as a reference, and I can’t figure out how to add the ‘checkbox active overlay’ inside the form element. Webflow won’t allow me to add anything inside a nested form. Can someone guide me in the right direction? I’m also going crazy trying to figure this one out, there must be some simple magical way to do it!

I have a feeling it has something to do with the fact that the ability to add another div inside has been removed by updates. That’s the only thing I can think of. I am still trying to figure it out so I can keep you posted on my progress. :pray:
