Please consider adding a Markdown field type.
Its behavior/linking within the CMS can mimic the Rich Text and Plain Text fields.
Alternatively, allow a switch when setting up Plain Text to accept Markdown.

Agreed. Ability to import Markdown would be incredibly useful.
Plain text fields can only accept text without formatting. I can see the user for Rich Text, but what’s the benefit of markdown when you can see the formatting right there? With markdown you always need a preview to test how it looks. Seems backwards to me.
