RTE and Floating images

For my CMS pages I have floating Images on the right and paragraph text filling the rest of the page. I went to switch the paragraph text to a RTE and for some reason the RTE element will expand down to where the Images end leaving a big gap to the next element. My RTE element and Paragraph element are exactly the same. Are you unable to wrap a RTE like a Paragraph?

The RTE expands to down to the end of the floating objects on the right.

I had a look at I assume this is a combination of using RTEs and floats. I haven’t used floats that often so I’m not the best person to help you figure this out.
Why not use flex instead?
