Does anyone know how to set up user input with e-commerce products?

Example: For a custom design, the buyer of the product will need to give our shop special instructions for what they want. Currently I do not see anywhere to allow users to input text with their product in the cart or at checkout.

At check out you can use additional data. Add that block to your page

I need these for each Order Item. For example on custom design the buyer will need to let us know what they want printed on their item.
