I’m trying to position a text block at the bottom of the div and column I’m using as a footer. I tried to follow the instructions I found on this discussion but it didn’t work for me, then I realized that it’s an old post so maybe something has changed.
I feel like I’m missing something really obvious.

Please provide a visual showing what you want. There are elements in the footer, I have no idea which one you want to center.
Anything you can do to illustrate your intent, goes a long way to those trying to help you in the forums.
The post you referenced was from 2015. There are new display options that did not exist back then, like flex. There are really lots of ways to do this. One way to learn is look at shared projects in the showcase, to see how another designer approached a layout challenge.
