Webflow for UI Designers

May I get clear of the following:

  1. As a UI designer, does that mean I can totally say bye to Developers (means I won’t need them anymore) once starting use Webflow soon?

  2. Just design the web version and Webflow will auto-generates its responsive version without any hassle and bugs’ worries, right?

  3. Could Webflow create even like Airbnb kinda websites?

Thanks.

Welcome to the community!

As a UI designer, does that mean I can totally say bye to Developers (means I won’t need them anymore) once starting use Webflow soon?

It really depends on the project. Not every site needs login functionality, but this isn’t something that Webflow offers by default—you’ll need to look into integrations. That said, there are a growing number of options for visual development tools that will make it much less daunting to do yourself.

Just design the web version and Webflow will auto-generates its responsive version without any hassle and bugs’ worries, right?

Not really, you design for each breakpoint and it will serve up the right version based on the device size. Just like in normal CSS, your changes cascade to the next breakpoint so you only need to change the elements that aren’t working for a particular size.

Could Webflow create even like Airbnb kinda websites?

Not by itself, but thankfully there are a number of no-code tools that have been used alongside Webflow (like Memberstack for member functionality or Monto for reviews) that can help.

Okay got it.
So I guess in this case, fully custom design still the best option instead of Webflow right?
(and I still would need Developers)

It really depends on what types of sites your working on and the needs of your customers. I don’t use Webflow for all of my web projects, but whenever it makes sense I jump on the opportunity.

Also, if you’re paying for an Account Plan, you can export any site and modify the code to work with whatever end platform you’d like—and with the help of Udesly you can automatically convert these exports to Wordpress, Shopify, Ghost, or Netlify.

but anyhow I still need to know coding otherwise hire a Developer to help me, right?

I would recommend jumping into the designer and playing around to see if it’ll be a useful tool based on your current or upcoming projects.

The Free Account plan will give you enough to get yourself familiar with the platform before needing to upgrade, Zapier is free up to a certain number of “zaps” (moving information between different platforms—useful for certain tasks like allowing members to add content to the Webflow CMS with form submissions), and Memberstack—the account integration I mentioned in my first reply—has what they call an “Unlimited Free Trial”. With these three platforms you should be able to accomplish a lot of the base functionality for a project similar to Airbnb. I doubt you’re going to be able to accomplish every single aspect of a project exactly like Airbnb, but I have no idea what type of project you have in mind or whether those bells and whistles are necessary to launch.

As I’ve mentioned a couple times, it really depends on your project.

The tool itself doesn’t require coding but depending on what’s necessary you may need to look into other integrations that may require some form of coding. Thankfully there are a growing number of no-code tools available (like the handful I mentioned) that eliminate—or at least minimize—the amount of coding knowledge you need.
