Is there no auto-generated email that can be sent to the form submitter as a confirmation of receipt?
If not, can this be established with Webflow client customisation?

You can use MailChimp and integrate into Webflow.
Hi @jhogan, thanks for the post. At the moment, we do not have the ability to send out mails from a different email than no-reply@webforms.io. You can setup a customized form notification that is sent, using these instructions: http://help.webflow.com/customize-form-emails
In the future we will update forms to give you more customization options. Feel free to let us know how you want the forms to work on our wish list: Guidelines for posting to the Wish List category
The other option is to use a third party service like MailChimp as @jdesign suggested.
