Website and App Database Design

Hello Webflow Community,

For companies such as Airbnb, Foursquare, Groupon, etc., would they use one database to feed both the website and app, or, would two separate databases be used to respectively feed the website and app?

Eventually, I’m trying to design/development a business directory to serve my local community; obviously, I’d like to do it the right way.
