Where is my data stored?

Hello.
I have a question about the storing of my website data. I live in Holland and have a Webflow hosting plan for my website.
Where is this data stored? Is this in the EU, USA, UK ore ?
This is important because there are rules for the protection of personal data inside and outside the EU.
So, how does Webflow stores my data and that of here customers?
Can I use Webflow in the Netherlands without breaking EU rules?

Your website is being hosted in the USA unfortunately.

@HGWeb - Webflow uses platforms like AWS and fastly which have distributed networks with data centers all over the world, you can read more about it here:

There is a very large thread about this here: Webflow & GDPR | Hosting in EU + Privacy Statement needed - #44 by sarahfrison

It sounds like the consensus is murky at best and most likely consulting an attorney makes the most sense.

However, it would be odd to me that this requirement impacts Webflow users, as almost any large company is going to be using a global network for content distribution at this point in time…just my two cents.

Thanks for your answers.
This seems to be a tricky thing. A lot off legal text to read.
I asked Webflow for an answer, let’s see what they say?

Hi Hans,

Did you get a response? I’m concerned all Webflow data is stored In the USA - Privacy Shield is thought of quite negatively now - if data is stored in the USA some clients would want a new website.

Thanks

Hoi Helen.
Webflow has moved my websites (Amazon) from the USA to servers in Ireland.
Ireland is within the EU, so that’s no problem.
The A-records (Hosting) still point to the US, but when I check the website (SEO Power Suite) the domain IP is from Dublin, Ireland.
A redirect? I don’t know. I’m not a DNS specialist.

Hi Hans,

Thanks so much for the response, I’ve just done an audit on SEO Power Suite and the domain is pointing to Ireland. I suppose this should be guaranteed to meet GDPR requirements but it’s a start!

Hoi Helen.
I send a mail to Webflow today to ask them ‘how and why’ about data storage.
Let’s see what they say about this?

Hoi Helen.

I have to correct myself. The original data of my websites are still stored in the USA.
What I see with SEO Power Suite is the CDN.

Webflow says it is working on a European storage for EU customers. But when? No idea.
So if your customers don’t want their data stored in the USA, there is no solution for that yet.

As a company you can conclude a processing agreement with Webflow for data transfer outside the EU.

No idea if this is enough? I’am not a lawyer.

I use Iubenda for my gdpr because it is quite complicated and I have insufficient knowledge of these matters myself. And it is constantly changing!
